Healing Currents Final Chapter

Now that we’re finishing up Healing Currents, it feels right to look back at where this project started and how much it changed along the way. The whole idea came from Jay’s original pitch, which pulled inspiration from immersive installations like TeamLabs Japan’s water projection work and the interactive water floor at the Ontario Science Centre. Those examples captured the calm, flowing feeling we wanted to create, and they helped us imagine what our own version could look like.

A big part of Jay’s thinking was making something that made sense for the space we were working with. Since people would be viewing the projection from outside, he wanted the visuals to be clear even if it was snowing or visibility was low. That meant avoiding small text or anything too detailed. Instead, we leaned into bigger, brighter visuals that would stand out and still feel meaningful from a distance.

Jay also suggested focusing on just one moon teaching instead of trying to represent all thirteen. There are lots of resources that talk about the Thirteen Grandmother Moons as a whole, but not as many that go into each individual teaching. Choosing the Sucker Moon gave us something specific to work with and helped us build a clearer story around renewal, cleansing, and cycles of healing.

From there, the project grew as everyone brought their part in. Veronique built the technical system so reflections could turn into fish in real time and kept refining the movement until it felt calm and natural. Miranda and Sophia created the promo videos, visuals, and animations, shaping the look of the suckerfish and the water so everything felt connected.

This final week was all about bringing everything together. We finalized our prompts, updated signage, polished the branding, and fixed anything that felt unclear after our prototype presentation. Zoey and Chantelle worked on the final blog posts and social content to help communicate what the project is about and how people will experience it if it is chosen for Lights On Stratford, as well as making sure we had everything needed for our final deliverables.

Thanks for following along with us throughout this whole process. No matter where Healing Currents ends up, we’re grateful for the chance to build it together and we hope people get the opportunity to experience it in its full form at Lights On Stratford!
