The Visual Journey of Healing Currents

This week, we took some time to look back at how the visual side of Healing Currents has grown from the very first idea to the animations we’re creating now. It has been a steady progression, and seeing everything laid out together really shows how much the project has evolved.
The project began with Jay’s original proposal, which focused on the calmness of water, themes of renewal, and the symbolic meaning of the suckerfish. Those early ideas guided us into building our group moodboard once the team formed. The moodboard helped us define the tone we wanted, with deep blues, soft gradients, and flowing textures that felt peaceful and reflective.
From there, our media aesthetics started to take shape. We worked through colour choices, lighting styles, and different textures to get the calm, glowing atmosphere we were aiming for. This stage helped us figure out not just how the project would look, but how it should feel.
Once production started, the visuals really came to life. Miranda worked on the suckerfish drawings and animations, focusing on movement, glow, and how the fish interact with the background. Sophia refined the flowing water textures and gradients that make up the environment behind the fish. Together, they shaped the visuals, videos, and animations that make the installation feel alive.
We are not showing the full final animation yet, but we added a small sneak peek so you can get a sense of the movement and style we’re working toward.
Follow the gallery below to see the progression of our visual and still clips from our animations. We don't want to give too much away just yet from the final animation, but we added a small sneak peek can get a sense of the movement and style we’re working toward.
This carousel shows the full progression of our visuals. It begins with our moodboard and media aesthetics, then moves into a timeline of how our suckerfish animation developed, from early sketches to the design.
